Temple #14

On the way to the Ross Tournament
we pass through Monticello so our plan
was to stop and do a session on the way.

Unfortunately, Trayco looked up the times wrong

(Monticello only has 4 sessions a day
and closes in the middle of the day)

so we weren't able to go in but we decided to
stop by and walk around it and snap a few pictures.

Fun Facts:

The Monticello Temple was the first of the new
generation of temples as conceived
 by President Gordon B. Hinckley.

The Monticello Temple was the eleventh temple
built in Utah ad was constructed in just eight months.

The temple originally supported a white angel
Moroni but it seemed to "disappear" on cloudy days
so it was replaced by a gold-leafed Moroni.
(The original angel Moroni was gold-leafed and
installed atop the Columbus Ohio Temple)

Once the smallest temple of the Church,
the Monticello Temple was originally 7,000 square feet
with a single ordinance room and sealing room.

Four years after its dedication,
it was rededicated after an expansion project
that added a second ordinance room, sealing room,
entrance canopy, waiting room, offices, and a laundry.
